Position:                    Fund Development and Communications Officer (part time with the possibility of expansion to full time).

Reports to:                 Executive Director


Alice House (AH) is a not-for-profit organization that provides second stage housing for women with or without children who are fleeing intimate partner violence (domestic violence). Alice Housing has been providing housing, counselling and advocacy services since it’s inception in 1983.

The Fund Development and Communications Officer must have an operating philosophy that is consistent with the mission, vision, values and goals of AH. Using a feminist philosophy, the incumbent must respect the right of women to self-determination and economic and political equality in society and be mindful of the need for women and children to experience both security and respect.


Delivering communications strategies and materials (online and print) to promote Alice House services and successes

Designing, writing and editing reports, fact sheets, pamphlets and other communication materials including feature stories, program outcomes and support rationales

Planning and executing the expansion of donor base (individual, corporate and foundation) through communications strategy and donor recognition programs

Providing foundation research and communicating with foundations aligned with Alice Housing to increase revenue and external partnerships

Promoting Individual Giving by servicing and improving individual donor programs and researching prospects for new and renewing donors at all levels

Cultivating and strengthening existing and new sponsors by providing ongoing sponsorship relations

Planning and organizing fundraising events and communicating plans with Executive Director

Developing and maintaining fundraising databases

Providing website support including creating a communications portal on website to enable communications with board of directors

Providing regular updates to website to maintain best practise and communications

Delivering social media strategy



Superior communication and management skills including problem-solving skills

Excellent public relations, communications and management skills

Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Well developed understanding of common computer programs word processing, publishing, web site development and social media

Excellent computer software skills including MS Office programs

Must have the ability to work from home/off site (i.e. access to internet, phone)

Experience with grant writing and funding requests in the public and/or private sectors is considered an asset

Knowledge of issues affecting women and domestic violence considered an asset


Education: Communications or Public Relations Degree
