Counselling Therapy

If you need help, Alice House provides access to trauma-informed counselling, support groups, and child & youth services - even if you aren't a resident with us. . 

Under this program, Alice House provides therapeutic individual and group counselling, prevention and education programs, and advocacy services to women and children who have escaped IPV. Our trauma-informed counsellors guide women and children through their recovery journey, with three-tier levels that represent safety, courage, and growth. These tiers cater to the specific needs of clients at different stages of their healing process.

If you are the victim of a crime, Nova Scotia Victims Services can refer you to Alice House to access our counselling through the Criminal Injuries Counselling Program.

Trauma Counselling

Supports survivors through a three-tiered framework focused on safety, courage, and growth.

Our trauma-informed counsellors guide women through their recovery journey focusing on trauma recovery and addressing mental health symptoms arising from experiencing IPV.

Criminal Injuries Counselling

Offers time-limited counselling for survivors of violent crime, including women and children.

Alice House counsellors are approved criminal injuries counsellors and provide time-limited mental health counselling to women and children survivors of a violent crime. Referrals required for external clients.

Peer Support Groups

Includes fitness, meditation, and art therapies, as well as education on resisting societal victim-blaming narratives.

Group programs, including fitness classes, meditation, and art therapies. The program also educates women about societal attitudes surrounding gender-based violence, empowering them to develop self-esteem and resist victim-blaming narratives.

Recovery is a Journey. True recovery is a continuing process. It means you are growing to your full potential. It is never a destination. There are no limits in recovery, only those that you impose upon yourself can stop you.
